Pumpkin Quest

I love autumn. Like, really love it. Which is probably bizarre for you guys considering I live in the desert of Arizona. Autumn in Arizona is gorgeous, but not what you think of when you think of fall. Warm days, warm nights, green leaves. Our leaves turn and fall at Christmas time. But it doesn’t matter, I love it. I buy all the pumpkins I can. Todd comes home every day and asks why there are more squash all over the house. I just smile and give him a big fat kiss and say, “Aren’t they beautiful?” What can he say? They ARE beautiful!

This year I went on what I’m calling a ‘pumpkin quest’. I didn’t find the different colored pumpkins at the supermarket where I usually see them so I went everywhere. Big stores, little stores, box stores, and I found a few. Ok, more than a few. But they’re beautiful! And fabulous for tablescapes.

Most of the ‘weird’ ones or ‘different’ than the original orange are ‘squash’ technically. But I like to call them ‘cool pumpkins’. Most places that carry pumpkins carry the ‘cool pumpkins’ If you have Trader Joe’s near you, they’re a good one to check for unique pumpkins. I actually find most of mine at Walmart…. in September. They usually only get like 1 big crate full but they’re gone quickly. Every time I go to a store I look for them. If you look, you will find. Just remember to keep them in a cool place so they don’t rot too quickly. So Arizonians, that means inside, in the AC. 😊 (I do have some pumpkins outside but they’re faux pumpkins.) Have fun decorating! And good luck on your own pumpkin quest!!
